My dear husband took me out to eat and shopping for the evening. This doesn’t happen very often, for the most part because I don’t like to go without the children. It is nice to be out alone every once in a while though.
Before we left I asked the girls what they wanted for Christmas. We generally talk about what we will make or get for family and friends so this was a bit of a surprise to them. We do have a list of gift items, for the children, that is passed around the family. However, I generally don’t get them anything on the list. Instead I look for something very personal and meaningful that will last.
Curly replied that she was already getting something for Christmas, referring to the jumpers that I have been making for her. I asked her if there was anything else that she wanted and she said simply “Something for my baby dolls”. How cute is that.
Sissy said that she didn’t want anything for Christmas but then remembered that she wants “stuffed dogs or just anything that has to do with dogs or puppies”. She seems to be having a dog things. Perhaps Anne Geddes has a puppy doll. I will have to remember to look for one. (http://www.annegeddes.com/)
We started off the evening with dinner at a new Italian restaurant. We were both starved and figured that an early dinner would be more achievable than a late one on a Friday night. It turned out to be the worst restaurant ever. Not only did it turn out to not be Italian, but I think we could have done better getting dinner at the gas station. Really!
Shopping was more like browsing. We didn’t find anything for the children. The evening was far from a loss though because we had a great time just being in good company. Funny how a couple of hours, accomplishing nothing, with your loving, good humored spouse can be so rewarding. We should probably do it more often.
