Todays Harvest

We had so much fun at the county fair today. I was so encouraged by all of the wonderful produce that when we came home we had to check out our own kitchen garden.......

...and this is what we picked.

There are more pumpkins on the vine but none are ripe yet. They will not get much bigger than what you see here. Just the right size for decorations and deserts.

As you can see, we are bursting at the seams with tomatoes. We have bowls more in the house. I see sauce in the near future.

The zucchini are huge! I don't usually let them get that big. They were almost ready to pick before all of the rain that we received this week. As I said, now they are huge.

I have two that are a bit off color. One has an orange tint, probably because they are beside the pumpkin plants. The other one has a very pale skin and it has been that way from the start. It looks very odd.

The peppers and eggplants are doing well and we should be getting something off those soon as well. The broccolli has made a come back but I'm not sure if they will actually produce or not. The lettuce is blooming and will hopefully set seed. The cucumbers suffered from the drought the most and now are practically bloated from the rain.

The only other update would be for the walking onion. I'm not sure how it is doing, to tell you the truth, because I have never worked with onions before. The stem is bloated and the top setting bulbs are smaller and darker than usual. Doesn't sound good but perhaps it will pull through the wet season and recover well.

This season has been full of unpredictable and unexpected weather but the effort is worth the reward in great produce. The freshest that you can get, straight from the garden to the table.
