Polishing Brass

In college I became a bit of a collector of brass. One of my favorite pieces is a candelabra. Over the years I've enjoyed it and moved it around to decorate just about every room in the house. I never gave much thought to cleaning it beyond a quick wipe and it never entered my mind to actually polish it... Until a few days ago.

I was watching some YouTube videos about organization and there was a suggested video about polishing brass. Wow, what an idea. My brass was more than just a little dingy and tarnished, as you can see from the photograph.

I couldn't find the product that was suggested, Mr Metal, but I did pick up a bottle of Brasso. The very nice ladies at Lowe's recommended it. I'm very glad that I did. Look at the difference!! I just squirted some of the white paste onto a paper towel and rubbed it on the brass. The tarnish came right off. I am so amazed. Why didn't I do this before?

I didn't take a before picture because I didn't think the tarnish would actually come off. Then I ran out of paper towels before I was finished with the entire project. Perhaps I'll polish more of my brass and take detailed photos to share.

I'm in love with this product for brass. I wonder if it really works on all the metals listed on the label. I'll have to try it to find out.

May all your Christmas's be bright!
