Wow, If all goes well we will have a huge garden this year. Last year was our first try with herbs and they did very well. I still have a pot of parsley in my laundry room. This year we will be starting herbs in February, so planting season is coming upon us quickly. As far as I can tell, we are growing every vegetable that will grow in our zone. Obviously, I am not going to list them all. Here are some notes for my 2012 garden.
~ In March we will start the tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and other long season vegetables.
~ In April we can direct seed cole vegetables like broccoli and cabbage.
~ In May we will start green beans.
~ We will be trying again with the corn field but inevitably we will need to purchase topsoil in order to get the field going.
~ I am hoping to line the corn field with sunflowers and pumpkins, as was the plan last year.
~ This is the third year for our strawberries so the runners will be moved to a new spot this spring.
~ I am still putting off starting asparagus. I'm just not ready to make such a long term commitment to a vegetable that I am not very fond of.
~ The walking onion sets were planted in two more beds last fall. This year we will have 3, 4x4 raises beds.
I am very encouraged about the potential of this upcoming year. I hope everyone takes the time to plant just one garden this year.
