Finally Spring!

It is finally feeling like spring!! Has everyone finally had a chance to get in the garden and plant something? My chance came last weekend.

We finally had weather that was warm enough and the forecast wasn't showing signs of frost so I had the opportunity to get in and get to work. I plan my gardening out in a two week schedule during the planting season so I have been considerably behind. Sunday April 21st, I completed the work that I had planned to do from March until the end of April.
First there was turning over the other two beds that I hadn't gotten to when I was planting peas several weeks back. I had the first planting of lettuce, carrots, eggplant, broccoli, corn and spinach in before I started to slow down. I like to plant in succession so that once I harvest some, I can plant more to harvest later in the season.
Then I got to work on the tomatoes and peppers. Those I plant, then harvest from the same plant until frost. I prefer to pick fresh all summer as opposed to having the fruit ripen all at once and having several bushels all at one time to process or give away.
I still have a lot of work to do. The potatoes are sprouting in the pantry and calling to be planted. I need to prepare a place for the melons, pumpkins and squash. Then there is the periodical weeding and watering that needs my attention.

This fall I am planning to put in some bulb beds. We recently moved and I rather liked the irises and tulips that stayed with the old place. It's lovely to have blossoms in the spring to help you get in the spirit of planting. Perhaps I have just been looking at those catalogs that are constantly delivered to my mailbox.
