I went to the discount grocery store and I'm pretty happy with what I was able to find.
Meat and dairy are up first because they need to get in the fridge.
I picked up:
- a gallon of milk
- 2 trays of boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 2 trays of boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 2 lbs of ground turkey
- 8 lbs of ground beef
- a rack of ribs
- a block of mozzarella cheese
- 4 tubs of organic yogurt
Next to hit the fridge are the fresh fruits and vegetables. I bet you can't guess what my favorite find was.
- 10 5lb bags of organic potatoes for $1.50 a bag
- 4lbs of strawberries
- 5lbs of carrots
- 2 cucumbers
- 3 zucchini
- celery
- grapes
- 2 kiwi
- small head of cabbage
- sliced peppers
- a bag of spinach
Since we are heading into spring sports season I grabbed loads of snacks.
- 4 boxes of organic fruit snacks
- 3 bags of organic tortilla chips
- 4 boxes of organic granola bars (we ate one on the way home as a snack)
- 2 boxes of organic fig bars
- 3 boxes of organic sandwich cookies
- 12 bags of organic yummy looking snack treats
- 8 bags of Annie's organic cheddar crackers
- 2 bags of Annie's organic cookies
- 2 bag of organic sweet potato chips (these are mine and I don't share. Lol)
As far as regular boxed and canned goods go, we didn't find much.
- 3 boxes of organic cereal (one for each child)
- 8 bags of organic bread crumbs
- 4 boxes of non-GMO falafel mix
- 2 boxes of non-GMO tabuli mix
- 12 jars of organic crushed tomatoes
- 8 jars of organic Greek (tomato) sauce
- 17 boxes and bags of organic pasta
- a bag of organic croutons
- a shaker of parmigiana
- 8 jars of organic dip
There were a few one offs and miscellaneous items that caught our eye.
- jelly
- an interesting looking organic hot sauce
- Soy Vey Teriyaki Sauce
- organic coconut oil
- 5 bottles of organic peach tea (we enjoyed 4 of them as part of our snack for the drive home)
Last but not least (and these are last because I threw them in the freezer and completely forgot about them. Hahaha), frozen foods. I was really disappointed. I usually come home with a pile of frozen goodies but not today.
- 4 packages of organic vegetable ravioli
- 4 individually wrapped chocolate covered ice cream cones (that we ate on the way home as part of our snack)
Over all it was a good trip. If you'd like to see what we do with all these groceries, stay tuned. I'll try and post some of our favorite recipes.
